|Conservation & restoration
The scope, size and complexity of this outstanding property creates particular challenges in ensuring that Everglades is preserved, presented and interpreted for the benefit of future generations.

The original Owner of Everglades, Georgina Stonier, christened her mountain home The Everglades in 1923. The reason for the name is not self evident. Georgina Stonier is not known to have visited Florida and the Leura site lacks swamps and alligators. But the name endured and the Van de Veldes inherited the form The Everglades in the 1930’s.”
